The mission of the Garfield County Sheriff’s Office is to protect and assist the people of Garfield County.

Our dedicated law enforcement staff will maintain excellence in this endeavor and will continually improve our knowledge, skills, and abilities through personal development and training.

Garfield County Sheriff

Larry R. Bowles is the 20th Sheriff of Garfield County.

Sheriff Bowles began his career in 1986 as a Reserve Officer for the City of Pomeroy Police Department.  In January of 1988 the Police Department hired him as a full-time officer.  In June of 1988 he was hired by the Garfield County Sheriff’s Department.  He became the Undersheriff and was later appointed Sheriff on September 1, 1993.  He ran for Sheriff and was elected the following year.  Sheriff Bowles began his first term as an elected official on January 1, 1995.
